Thoth Tarot

The Thoth Tarot was born between 1938 and 1943 from the collaboration between Aleister Crowley, a British occultist and founder of Thelema, and painter Lady Frieda Harris. Crowley wrote the Book of Thoth (1944), which explains the symbolism of each card. Harris, initiated into Rudolf Steiner's projective geometry, imbues the illustrations with a shifting, almost hypnotic perspective. The cards cleverly integrate the attributions of the Golden Dawn, Hebrew numerology, zodiac signs, and planets, making this tarot a compendium of Western esoteric thought. The Thoth retains the structure of 78 cards: 22 trumps — sometimes renamed, such as 'Lust' for Strength or 'Adjustment' for Justice — and 56 minors in four suits (Wands, Cups, Swords, Disks). Each card carries precise astrological and Kabbalistic inscriptions. Readings often occur through structured spreads like the Celtic Cross. Interpretation requires some familiarity with the Kabbalistic tree of life, although intuitive approaches remain accessible. Bright colors and geometric symbols facilitate multi-level readings.
